Children at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church in Chaska (SHPC)
During the school year, children attend worship and are dismissed for the Shepherd of the Hill's children's Sunday School program, Godly Play, a Montessori approach to children's religious education inaugurated at SHPC in 2009. The first Sunday of each month, when we celebrate Holy Communion, children remain with their parents for the entire worship service.
Parents will find that our children's program is small, intimate, vibrant and growing. Through Godly Play, children explore the biblical stories in ways most of us adults never did in Sunday School. The children love this program, and they are learning how to worshhip as well as being grounded in foundational stories of the Christian faith.
If you're looking for BIG program for your kids, SHPC will not meet your expectation. If you're looking for a place where your child will be known by name, will get to explore and grow spiritually through a Montessori approach to learning, you'll be glad you came.
God's transforming grace and unconditional love for everyone, made know in Jesus Christ, is the root of the Shepherd of the Hill education program for all ages. Shepherd of the Hill Church in Chaska is small enough that no one need ever get lost, but we're equally respectful of people's need for space.
Sunday School & Children in Worship The children's Sunday School program will resume in September, begiining 10 minutes in worship at 9:30 a.m. before leaving for their time with trained teachers. SHPC takes an exciting Montessori approach to religious education called Godly Play. This is a tested program that connects the core biblical stories with a child's natural curiosity and sense of wonder. Part of its genius is its respect for a child's ability for silence and a quieter way of being with God and each other. The room where the children meet for Godly Play is THEIR room. It has minimal furnishings and the walls are decorated by the children themselves. A Place for the Mind and Heart | Monday Morning Every Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. SHPC Pastor Gordon Stewart meets with interested persons in the Fireside Room of Auburn Court in downtown Chaska. Click here for directions to Auburn Court. This is no stuffy Bible study! Using a variety of methods for contemplative prayers and scriptural interpretation, participants - usually eight to 14 people from SHPC and elsewhere - read and reflect together on the scripture readings for next Sunday's sermon. Participants come from everywhere. We chose the site because of accessibility issues for several residents of Moravian Care Ministires. A Place for the Mind and Heart | The Presbyterians An overview of Presbyterian beliefs and practices meets after Sunday worship through May 30. All inquirers and those wishing a refresher are invited to attend. Men's Retreat The 24-hour overnight retreat at the St. Paul Benedictine Center was a success and will be repeated in six months. A retreat on the Power of Forgiveness led by psychologist Mona Bustafson Affinito is in the planning stage. Click here for information on Mona Gustafson Affinito, Ph.D. A Place for the Mind & Heart |
